Texturing Drone 1: Pt 1.

I began texturing Drone 1 in Substance Painter, focusing on creating the metal base material for the drone and looking at bringing in that weathered element to signify the age of the drone and show how long it has been out in the field.

Introduction to Minor: Outcome Proposal.

To kick off Year 3, our first briefing this year was the introduction to the Minor project. For this project we had two options; either start fresh with a new idea that would then be carried over into the Major project to come later on in the year, or carry on using the base idea from our Premise project and see it through to the end of the Major project. Here I choose to continue on from Premise because I felt that that most of the foundations were already in place to then build upon and expand out for when it comes to creating in Maya. As part of the Minor Outcome Proposal, it required me to go back and reflect on/review my Premise work from last year. This included looking at any work that still needs to be done to help round off that section of work, as well as looking at making any improvements that need to be done in either the design areas or with the 3D Pre-Vis; which will need a refined updated version to move forward with. Characters are a mix of complex qualities that can be hidden or personified to viewers by other means such as through personal nature or through a representation of a concept or quality. Actors are usually the ones to ‘find’ characters and build that characters internal/external dynamics to audiences so they can understand their personality/nature. So within stories characters are either designed to respond to events within the cinematic (e.g. Speed 1994) or are designed so that the characters cause the events that play out in the film (e.g. 12 Angry Men 1957). Meaning in some cases the audience really get to know the character, but in others they are just there to get the story across so don’t learn much about the character. Too much Plot? Some times in film you find stories to have ‘too much plot’ which can lead to having no character.
