Shop Front Design Concepts and Orthographs.

Image
Moving on with the set design, I then began finalizing the look and feel of the some of the buildings I intend to have in my main street scenes; as well as including 2 miscellaneous buildings that I can then further modify to create other buildings to help fill out the street and add a bit more variety. For the buildings I was going for a run down weathered feel; with the idea of foliage and natural plant life taking over and reclaiming the town and it's surroundings. With the addition of dirt and moss I am also hoping to convey the age of the town, as well as incorporating small bits of graffiti to help imply its rough history with the ANR Regime. From these I also created orthographs from these designs, that I can then scale up and use to help when modelling to ensure I am getting the scale of the buildings right within the 'Maya World'. Renewed Set Concepts.

Image
After reviewing my Premise work, I found my concept drawings lacking. So to help start off the Minor Project I began by rounding of the set concepts to help show a general idea of the type of scenes/sets I plan to use in the final shots when filming.  Here I started off by finishing the Lab Deck Desk concept by filling in the colour to help round off that concept. Lab Deck Continuation: Lab Deck Desk Outline from Premise Coloured Lab Desk - Back Lighting; Lighting based behind the Pin board Coloured Lab Desk 2 - Light changed to have slight light rays casting onto the desk. From there I then moved onto drawing out the rest of my concepts to help give me those working visuals to then refer back to when in Maya. This consisted of Harret Sets Main St, the Lab Deck's Shattered window and finally the Generator Hallway. Establishing the Town Within my World: Name the Town and Shop Branding.

Image
To help add a bit of background to the world I'm creating I looked at giving my decaying town a name and a loose idea of what it could have been like. Below shows the process I went through to construct my town name and explains some of my ideas behind the feel of the town. Production Bible: Raymond's Home Concepts and Storyboard Outline.

Continuing on with the character design project, I proceeded on to creating further set concepts, set plans and storyboards. To start with I looked at creating the human counterpart set concept with the entrance to Raymond's home hidden in the corner hidden behind the table. Taking influence from the Art Deco period I tried to embody that aspect through the geometric rug and the repeating pattered wallpaper with use of a minimum of 3 colours to keep with the simplicity the period brought to the home. Below that there are set plans for Raymond's home, showing a side and top view of the wall cavity in which he lives. Human Home Concept. Set Plans: Side (Left) Top (Right). From there I began designing some miscellaneous objects that would be found in his home and the ways in which he may use said objects. For example; his bed would be made from a sardine tin with the addition of cotton wadding, scrap material and matches/ an old shilling to make up his headboard. Another wou...

Character Production Bible: Update.

Image
Over the pass couple of months I've been continuing to work on the character design project ; in amongst others, to help round it off. Since the check-in I've been working on finishing of the St Paul's concept as well looking at to add in the gesture sheets for both my characters along with adding in the animation layout. Design Concept 1 - St Paul's. Animation Layout: Camera starts zoomed in on crack in the lamp post base. Raymond and Melvin emerge from crack and move out into the open to look up at St Paul's. Camera pans left to follow movement. Raymond points up at the cathedral, Melvin is in awe. As Raymond points camera zooms out and the audience see what Raymond is pointing at. Gesture Sheets - Raymond; Melvin: Raymond and Melvin Together.

Premise: Environmental Research.

Looking at my proposal ideas I started to think about whether I wanted to do them so that they were going to be 3 separate ideas or as a cohesive set of environments that all have one event in common to link them together. From this I decided to see how I could link all 3 together; noting how all have a science theme and how I could use this to form a storyline to base the environments off of. So, using the last bullet point from each proposal to form my base concept. I came up with the outline of a rebel/activist group planning to abolish all nuclear power from existence, using ideas from the Duck and Cover era to show an anti-nuclear regime. In addition to this I thought it would be good at add a group of scientist that are striving to protect earths plant life by taking into space where it would then be safe from the rumor's of the rebels planning to attack the power plants and shut the plants down. The story/world would be set years into the future and lack any form of huma...

Production Bible: Character Expression Sheets and Turnarounds.

Image
Continuing on with the Production Bible, I then begun to create some expressions and turnarounds for my Lead (Raymond) and Secondary (Melvin) characters. With the turnarounds I found it difficult to draw the front perspective of each character, so the faces may need amending if taken forward into a 3D space. Ray and Vinny together (Height Difference).
