Collaboration: Character Profiles and Influence Maps.

Image
To better wrap my head around the character we as a group are trying to create, I started to look at different comedy characters personality, traits and overall look and how they come across to others. With this I started to gather imagery I thought to best suited to the character we as a group were trying to create. With this came watching clips to help getting a better understanding of how other characters are formed; for this I watched clips form Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and a Thin Blue Line. Basil thrashes his car - Fawlty Towers – BBC Fawlty Towers: Top Ten Scenes (Part One) Whose Fault is It? | Fawlty Towers | BBC Comedy Greats Monty Python - Military March A Thin Blue Line - The Best of Constable Goody So using traits from the video's above, I started to plug in these characteristics/ideas alongside my own ideas to create the initial fleshed of Character Profile for our Collaboration Project. With this idea there is still work to be done to consolidate the char

Production Bible: Research.

Research curated for meeting with Justin. With this I looked at gathering research of the time I am trying to recreate and project onto my storyline, as well as finding relevant imagery to work from to then apply to my scenario. Which has now been refined from after talking to Justin; I now feel like I have a better sense of direction of where this conceit is going and can now start to build/bring the styles I want to include into my drawn designs. Film Lecture Series #1 - Myth and Storytelling + Film Review.

Image
Today we looked at myth and storytelling and how that then feeds into the films we watch.  The word Myth is derived from the Greek word mythos, which are metaphoric stories told through the ages to enlighten our social understanding and to teach generations lessons as well as morals through storytelling. Now a days this form of storytelling is still occurring; but instead of it being through books and handed down stories within a society, it is being done through more modern digital means, for example through films. From this way of thought came Myth and Morphology, first with Josephs Campbell's monomyth* 'Hero With A Thousand Faces' - also known as The Hero's Journey -  and Chris Vogler's 'The Writers Journey.' - which is a shorter, grouped version of Campbell's original idea. In addition to this Soviet folklorist and scholar Vladimir Propp analysed and studied the basic structural elements seen in Russian folklore tales; being then able to help define

Week 2: Act: Moom Relaxed Poses.

Image
To start off todays session, we looked at creating a 5 minute pose using the Moon character rig. Here we had to best replicate the pose we chose to mimic. The reasons for this is to practice character positioning and so that we can speed up positioning when it comes to animation. From there the task was to choose 5 relaxed poses that didn't hold any tension within the person we were mimicking. Below are the poses I chose to replicate with the Moom character rig.

Life Drawing #1.

Image
For this year life drawing, we are going to looks more at the breaking the comfort zones of where we feel comfortable in drawing. We will also be looking at being more free and loose with the way that we draw. Drawing tips to keep in mind for the coming year. Due to lack of model for this session, members of the class volunteered to pose for 15 minutes so we could start to apply the above tips mentioned. Within this we also had live drawing tutorials within the session to further understand/ comprehend how a pose comes together, and 'what feels right' in the moment we are creating a stroke within a piece.

Collaboration: Worlds Worst.... Brainstorming Ideas and Scenarios.

Image
After receiving our topic for our Collaboration Project I started to mind map possible ideas of what could be 'The Worlds Worst...' . These ranged in jobs, places and supernatural traits. From there, as a group we set up a teams meeting to go over finalizing the aesthetics of the blog as well as ideas we had come up with for worlds worst. With this we found we all had the common theme of jobs and decided to go down that avenue of thought, here we all agreed to come up with some other job roles and possible scenarios that these job roles could be reenacting in the skit. Possible scenarios that I came up with; some are more thought out than others and make more sense, where as some seem to have a start and no visible end point. We also discussed  job roles within the group and have assigned as below: Director: Jasmine Masters Producer: Jessica Crosby Media: Saskya Olsen Researcher: Kimberley Davis We all had a fair say in the roles we were given; having been through the proces

Character Design Session #1.

Image
Today we went over another sub-project for Toolkit 2; this being the drawing and character design aspect for the Toolkit project. Due to Covid, lessons are having to be structured slightly differently, this meaning that one week we will have two lectures in one day and the next week tutorials online to coincide with the Production Bible that we have been asked to curate. Which is basically applying the skills learnt in the lectures to a topic/character setting that was chosen at random for us. I got a Mouse in the style of a World War 2 poster who is courageous/heroic, set in the 1930s/40s who experiences a big disaster of some sort. Lecture Notes on Brief. Lecture notes 1 and 2 on Drawing Life/You Are So Conceited. Applying theory to practical work. Given random object (clown shoes) and was asked to study its function, different variations of what it could look like when placed on a character. Was then asked to start characterizing where that object may be used and what sort of charac

Collaboration Project: Setting up Studio Name and Branding.

Image
For this Collaboration Project I am working with: Saskya Olsen , Kimberly Davis and Jessica Crosby . To start with we decided to come up with a few studio names ourselves to then feedback to the group and deicide on a theme and image to follow along to then added the final studio name to the design. At first I thought of either naming our studio after star constellations or animals as I liked the idea of a studio that could be versatile, flexible and infinite. As well as trying to implement a bit of fun into the name. From there I found two names to stand out to me, theses being Chameleon Studios and Grey Lynx Entertainment Studios. With this I found myself leaning more toward the Chameleon Studios idea and logo/branding designs. From this as a team we discussed ideas and further possible names. With is we found the chameleon imagery to be something we could work with and make it more playful; there was also mention of still combining that space element into the design and name chang
