Complete Character Production Bible. Toolkit #2 - Character Prod... by Jasmine Masters Clean Concept Art: St Paul's - The Night of the Air Raid. Raymond's Home.

Production Bible: Raymond's Home Concepts and Storyboard Outline.

Continuing on with the character design project, I proceeded on to creating further set concepts, set plans and storyboards. To start with I looked at creating the human counterpart set concept with the entrance to Raymond's home hidden in the corner hidden behind the table. Taking influence from the Art Deco period I tried to embody that aspect through the geometric rug and the repeating pattered wallpaper with use of a minimum of 3 colours to keep with the simplicity the period brought to the home. Below that there are set plans for Raymond's home, showing a side and top view of the wall cavity in which he lives. Human Home Concept. Set Plans: Side (Left) Top (Right). From there I began designing some miscellaneous objects that would be found in his home and the ways in which he may use said objects. For example; his bed would be made from a sardine tin with the addition of cotton wadding, scrap material and matches/ an old shilling to make up his headboard. Another wou...

Character Production Bible: Update.

Image
Over the pass couple of months I've been continuing to work on the character design project ; in amongst others, to help round it off. Since the check-in I've been working on finishing of the St Paul's concept as well looking at to add in the gesture sheets for both my characters along with adding in the animation layout. Design Concept 1 - St Paul's. Animation Layout: Camera starts zoomed in on crack in the lamp post base. Raymond and Melvin emerge from crack and move out into the open to look up at St Paul's. Camera pans left to follow movement. Raymond points up at the cathedral, Melvin is in awe. As Raymond points camera zooms out and the audience see what Raymond is pointing at. Production Bible: Character Expression Sheets and Turnarounds.

Image
Continuing on with the Production Bible, I then begun to create some expressions and turnarounds for my Lead (Raymond) and Secondary (Melvin) characters. With the turnarounds I found it difficult to draw the front perspective of each character, so the faces may need amending if taken forward into a 3D space. Ray and Vinny together (Height Difference). Production Bible: Second Character Development.

Image
Moving forward with the production Bible, I then begun looking at developing my second character using my lead mouse as a guide to help design a smaller more child like character. For may second character I was aim to have his profile to be younger, smaller and rounder than my lead mouse with big ears that he would have to grow into, with large round eyes to try and convey that of a younger age. To begin with I looked at sketching out some heads to get a feel for how i wanted my second character to look. With this I found it gave me a starting base to work from. Mainly looking at the top middle and the two in the middle row on the left and center of the image. With these in mind I then proceeded to create some poses to have my second character perform to get a better feel for their personality. With this i tried to capture their cheekiness and curiosity of the world around him as well as try to capture a natural pose. Then moved on to digital outcome to sort out colour. trying to go fo...

Character Design Session #5

Image
Today we looked at prepping for compiling our character designs into a easily digestible format - this being our production bibles - to demonstrate our ideas and scenarios for our character and the world they exist in. Given a creative challenge to design a logo based on the name given to us, where we had to incorporate the above mentioned techniques (Design Rules section). So for my character bible I'm planning too go along the theme of a scrap book and include bits and pieces in which my mouse has collected on his travels, I am also going to try and bring in a some sort of propaganda style to the book format. We were then given a second task, where we had to design a character that lives in an existing world. So for my group we were given Miraculous; which is a program about high-school student's having alter egos who then become superheroes and depending on the animal they turn into, it then determines the power they have. eg Lady Bug = luck, Cat Noir = bad luck . So for my ...

Character Design Session #4

Image
Today we looked at Storytelling, Staging, Acting and Animation Layouts.  Here we looked at the different distance shots and camera angles and how they can be used within a scene to help convey the mood and emotions to the viewer. In addition to this we also looked at composition of the scene and how some layouts are more suitable than others, for example; line tangents (where lines meet and overlap) in the scene can cause focus to be drawn away from the main subject. For this task, we looked at it in relation to our production bible projects. So for mine I looked at setting up the scene of a London skyline during the 1940  blitz's and an underground station being used as a bunker. From there we looked at how how characters inhabit the scenes/sets we create and making sure we are setting the right perspective for our shots as too low or too high may give off the wrong message and may not relate to our character. So, for example my character's a mouse, so his perspective of the ...
