Character Design practice session #2

Given the prompt of an Aztec Priest for this I had to create various props for the character to use as well as a place where he may spend his time.  I was then given the second prompt of a nursery looked at objects that could be turned into characters, for this I looked at the building blocks, teething rings, milk bottles, toys and a pacifier. with the pacifier I found it to be the most effective as I could use the rubber part for the body and the plastic top as a hat; giving the object a western standoffish feel; alternatively also giving it a very placid and mellow vibe. .

Intro to Storyboarding 101.

Image
For this task I looked into story boarding the different angles that can be used to create a scene. To start with I looked at taking a pre-exisiting scene and looked at altering the camera angles and movement to get a different feel to the shot. Within this exercise I had to storyboard a scene using pre-existing film camera shots based in a restaurant or diner. For this I looked to create a converstion between two people that started out fun and flirty; but as soon as the male character starts eating, the female protagonist is shocked. The lead male becomes aware of her staring and stps mid-chew, the female lead soon joins in and the atmosphere is light a fun again. Exercise 3: From there I then stared to create a 'Like-for-Like' storyboard; which is where you use a pre-existing piece of film or footage and plan out the scenes, actions, camera shots, and the different takes for the film. Using the clip from above I started to map out the flow of the scene

Refined Story Plot.

Image
Here I started to refine one of my plot line ideas that I wanted to take forward; with the first plotline I found it to be lacking a 'cause and effect' with the character and their learning process. so here I tried to implement that learning process as well as describe the outline of what's occurring in the story so that it flows. With this foundation in place I can now start to flesh out the story's body and the events that lead up to the final outcome. As suggested above the animals take on different personality traits which are then are personified into the animals physical traits and are dependant on how they act. from this I created an influence map to help with not only the anatomy of the animals but also help influence they way in which the characters are drawn.

Story Plot Line Ideas.

Image
Using the three components given from the initial briefing, I've started to come up with different plot and story ideas to coincide with the character, location and object. (Ringmaster, Airport Lounge and a Grappling Hook), varying from more real world to more comic adaptations.
