Establishing the Town Within my World: Name the Town and Shop Branding.

Image
To help add a bit of background to the world I'm creating I looked at giving my decaying town a name and a loose idea of what it could have been like. Below shows the process I went through to construct my town name and explains some of my ideas behind the feel of the town. Maya Refresher #1: Lighting Practice.

Image
Lighting Tips: > When it comes to lighting the scenes in Maya, come prepared with a mood board of reference images of lighting that you want to see in your scene. With this base of reference you can then start to work out the type of lighting that you will use when in Maya. > Think about the overall light going into the scene (sky dome as the main light and any extra lights like directional/ area lights). > Think about the colour of the shadows. > Think about the main lights (depending on the time of day). > Think about the type of atmosphere within the scene and how that will affect the your lighting choice (eg fog and atmospherics). > Key Note: The more lights you add the longer the rendering time will be, plus any numbers added in the render settings to detract any dark spotting in shadow areas. Mid-day Shot: Used Skydome Light with a Ramp to light scene, Directional Light to help brighten scene and create those shadows & Area Light to help replicate the...

Introduction to Minor: Outcome Proposal.

To kick off Year 3, our first briefing this year was the introduction to the Minor project. For this project we had two options; either start fresh with a new idea that would then be carried over into the Major project to come later on in the year, or carry on using the base idea from our Premise project and see it through to the end of the Major project. Here I choose to continue on from Premise because I felt that that most of the foundations were already in place to then build upon and expand out for when it comes to creating in Maya. As part of the Minor Outcome Proposal, it required me to go back and reflect on/review my Premise work from last year. This included looking at any work that still needs to be done to help round off that section of work, as well as looking at making any improvements that need to be done in either the design areas or with the 3D Pre-Vis; which will need a refined updated version to move forward with. Keeping this in mind I'm aiming to review and ref...

Production Bible: Raymond's Home Concepts and Storyboard Outline.

Continuing on with the character design project, I proceeded on to creating further set concepts, set plans and storyboards. To start with I looked at creating the human counterpart set concept with the entrance to Raymond's home hidden in the corner hidden behind the table. Taking influence from the Art Deco period I tried to embody that aspect through the geometric rug and the repeating pattered wallpaper with use of a minimum of 3 colours to keep with the simplicity the period brought to the home. Below that there are set plans for Raymond's home, showing a side and top view of the wall cavity in which he lives. Human Home Concept. Set Plans: Side (Left) Top (Right). From there I began designing some miscellaneous objects that would be found in his home and the ways in which he may use said objects. For example; his bed would be made from a sardine tin with the addition of cotton wadding, scrap material and matches/ an old shilling to make up his headboard. Another wou...
