Maya Refresher #1: Lighting Practice.

Lighting Tips:
> When it comes to lighting the scenes in Maya, come prepared with a mood board of reference images of lighting that you want to see in your scene. With this base of reference you can then start to work out the type of lighting that you will use when in Maya.
> Think about the overall light going into the scene (sky dome as the main light and any extra lights like directional/ area lights).
> Think about the colour of the shadows.
> Think about the main lights (depending on the time of day).
> Think about the type of atmosphere within the scene and how that will affect the your lighting choice (eg fog and atmospherics).
> Key Note: The more lights you add the longer the rendering time will be, plus any numbers added in the render settings to detract any dark spotting in shadow areas.

Mid-day Shot:

Used Skydome Light with a Ramp to light scene, Directional Light to help brighten scene and create those shadows & Area Light to help replicate the bounce light from the sand.

Evening Shot (Golden Hour):

Used Skydome Light with a Ramp - Here I change the ramp colours to include a more pinkish hue, Directional Light also with a more pinkish hue, 2nd Area Light to help create that bounce light from the mesh light, turquoise Mesh light and 2 Point Lights to create a soft back light to cast over the hills.

Night Time Shot:

Used Skydome Light with a Ramp - changed ramp colours to darker navy colours, Directional Light colour changed to a yellowish tint, 2 Area Lights, Turquoise Mesh light and 2 Point Lights.
